“There’s no such thing as too much Dries,” said a colleague—though she needn’t have. She was preaching to the choir, and these last few months there has been a lot to sing about. The glory started with Hamish Bowles’s private tour of the designer’s magnificent Belgian gardens in the March issue of Vogue, continued with the behind-the-scenes look at his creative process via Dries Van Noten: Inspirations at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and culminated this week with the arrival of invitations to a dinner in Van Noten’s honor hosted by Barneys New York CEO Mark Lee followed by a book signing at the store the next day. (Van Noten inspires a certain reverence, though, among his fans. A particularly devoted designer friend illogically refuses to attend, too nervous to come face-to-face with his idol.) The tome hits shelves officially in April and offers a solid recap of all of the above, including a contribution from Bowles and evocative runway images from Van Noten’s most beloved collections. Some people might say one book isn’t enough. But isn’t it better than no book at all? Here, a sneak peek inside.
Dries Van Noten will be available April 16.
